A chance to breathe
I got e-mail this morning from the dancers in the US saying that the music I sent them last night is good for this week's performances. So, for the first time in 2-3 weeks, I do not have to spend the whole day coding frantically. Relief!
I'm tired, after a long push of intense work. I won't write much now. The first performance is less than 24 hours away. I'll see it at the time if I can haul myself out of bed (that's 6 AM over here), or not long after from the archives.
I believe the piece will be aesthetically a success, and technically a (how should I put it?) qualified success. We didn't get all the video interactivity working in time. Also, my code overloads the CPU on the computer that was supposed to run the music in some places, because my Linux machine (working perfectly after replacing the RAM!) is faster than the other machine. I don't see the CPU overload, but they do. It's all fixable, but it will take more intensive testing and definitely more time than we have. So the music will run from a recording. That's a little disappointing to me, but I'm certain it will be running live for the 2011 performances.
But as a performance -- the more time I spent watching the choreography by video, the more impressed I became. The choreographers' style is mature, individual and carefully considered, with a striking absence of throwaway gestures. These shows will be engaging, and they will make you stop and think.

(Did I mention how cool it is to see my name in this context?)
